About CSSDA

Building a national home for speech and debate in China

The China Schools Speech & Debate Association (CSSDA) exists to make national-team selection more open, more credible, and more accessible for students across Mainland China.

Who We Are

Building the pathway to international competition

The China Schools Speech & Debate Association (CSSDA) is the national coordinating body responsible for overseeing the selection and management of Team China for two major international championships: the World Schools Debating Championships (WSDC) and the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships (WIDPSC). CSSDA brings together educators, coaches, organizers, and institutional partners who believe that national representation should be built on merit, transparency, student welfare, and long-term community growth.

CSSDA was founded to create a clearer and stronger pathway for students in Mainland China who aspire to compete at the highest international level. We want outstanding debaters and public speakers from every part of the country to know that there is a real route to Team China, that the process is understandable, and that students will be evaluated seriously and fairly. Our role is not only to select teams. It is also to build trust, widen access, improve safeguarding, and support the next generation of coaches, judges, and student leaders.

Our Mission

What CSSDA does

CSSDA governs the public-facing selection process for Team China WSDC and Team China WIDPSC. That includes publishing timelines, setting application procedures, appointing selectors and coaches, and ensuring that decisions are made through a process that families, schools, and students can understand. CSSDA also helps coordinate training, communication, logistics, and standards for adults working with students in national-team spaces.

Beyond team selection, CSSDA aims to strengthen the wider speech and debate ecosystem in China. We want more schools to start programs, more students to discover high-quality competitions, more parents to understand the educational value of forensics, and more debate educators to feel that they can contribute to a shared national project.

Our Approach

How CSSDA works

CSSDA operates as a non-profit, community-led association. Its public mission is simple: to identify talented students, support them responsibly, and represent China with integrity on the international stage. We believe the best national systems are those that combine high standards with broad access. That means clear information, independent evaluation, respectful treatment of students, and adult accountability at every stage.

Our work is guided by four core ideas. Fairness means students should be judged on what they have done and how they perform, not on insider access. Transparency means timelines, expectations, and decisions should be communicated clearly. Safeguarding means student welfare comes before convenience or ego. Merit means Team China should always aim to select the students with the strongest combination of skill, commitment, growth, and readiness.

National-team debate and public speaking should do more than produce results at one tournament. At its best, it raises the level of the whole community. It gives younger students something to aspire to, encourages schools to invest in oracy education, and connects China's students to a global network of ideas, friendship, and competition. CSSDA is committed to building that future with seriousness and care.
