Team China at the World Schools Debating Championships
The World Schools Debating Championships is the world's leading international high school debate championship, bringing together national teams from more than 70 countries in the World Schools format.
Applications for 2026-2027 Team China WSDC are now open!
The highest level of team debate
WSDC is where top school-age debaters meet the highest level of international team debate. It combines intellectual rigor, quick thinking, strategic collaboration, and clear public communication. Students debate major questions in politics, economics, ethics, technology, and society, while also building friendships and competitive experience with peers from around the world. For many students, WSDC is the most demanding and rewarding team debate environment they will ever enter.
Team China WSDC is designed for students who want to grow inside that environment over the course of a full season. Our goal is not simply to find five strong speakers at the last minute. Our goal is to build a serious training culture, identify a deep pool of talent, and prepare students for international success through repeated practice, competition exposure, coaching, and constructive evaluation.

The Development Squad
The Development Squad is an important part of the Team China model. Each year, 12 to 16 students are selected to join this squad alongside the main team. The purpose is to widen the pipeline, create more national-level opportunities, and give talented students a meaningful pathway into future Team China cycles. Development Squad students may receive access to select training sessions, coaching touchpoints, competition opportunities, and feedback designed to accelerate their growth.
Training, expectations, and season structure
Once the squad is selected, students enter a sustained training process. That season may include weekly online sessions, spar debates, guest lectures, structured motion preparation, and participation in domestic or international competitions where appropriate. Students are expected to participate seriously, communicate clearly with coaches, and approach the season as a team effort rather than an individual résumé item. CSSDA also aims to balance ambition with realism. Team China students are high-achieving young people with school and family commitments, and strong coaching should help them navigate those commitments rather than ignore them. We want a program that is demanding, developmental, and sustainable.
Annual participation fee
The annual Team China WSDC membership fee is RMB 10,000. This fee covers training, team supplies, and core administrative costs across the season. Families receive clear information about expectations and scheduling before major commitments begin.

Our goal is not simply to find five strong speakers at the last minute. Our goal is to build a serious training culture, identify a deep pool of talent, and prepare students for international success through repeated practice, competition exposure, coaching, and constructive evaluation.
